The title “Lucky Box / ジャンク品” is taken from a box of old cameras and lenses that I came across in a small camera shop in Shinjuku, Tokyo last November.
The English on the sign said “LUCKY BOX”, but the Japanese translates to “Junk”. I was able to catch this because the first four characters – ジャンク – phonetically approximate the word “junk” in English:
ジ ャ ン ク
Ji ya n ku
This was one of my favorite Tokyo camera shop finds – even though I found nothing of value in the box itself – and I think it’s also a fitting title for this newsletter: a grab bag, mostly old cameras. Probably a lot of junk. But maybe worth a closer look.
I plan to start with tours of my film photography workflow: my camera kit, home film processing lab, film scanning setups, and print workshop.
Then deep dives: detailed process posts, links to YouTube videos, or interactive data documents like this one.
And likely the occasional travel post or link to my other newsletter.
Thanks for joining and rummaging around the lucky box/junk box! I hope there’s something for you in here.
